Rural Homestay

M.P.T.B. Initiation
Collaboration with Hunarshala- Bhuj

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is committed to promoting economy, culture, and tourism in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh through the development of "Homestays." In collaboration with 'Hunarshala- Bhuj' and working in eight villages, the initiative involves building these homestays on the properties of local villagers.

To ensure that the designs and construction align with the villagers' preferences and the guidelines set by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the AAGAUR team engages in a collaborative process. They initiate discussions with the villagers, seeking to understand their ideas and aspirations. The team also conducts a study of the local materials and building techniques, and documents the architectural style prevalent in the region.

Based on their findings, the AAGAUR team develops designs that are presented to the villagers. The villagers then have the opportunity to choose the designs that resonate with their vision and align with the guidelines. This participatory approach ensures that the homestays reflect the desires of the local community.

One of the key aspects of this initiative is the utilization of local masons for the construction process. The aim is to revive and enhance the rural architecture that has been in use for decades, but often without adequate technical knowledge. The construction techniques are developed and designed in a manner that respects and aligns with the mindset of the local villagers, allowing them to understand and engage with the construction process. This approach promotes the preservation of local ideologies, styles, and traditions while incorporating technical expertise and sound practices.

Currently, the initiative has been implemented in various villages in Harda, Hoshangabad, and Chindwara. By selecting 100 villages across Madhya Pradesh for the development of homestays, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board aims to not only boost tourism and the local economy but also preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage and architectural diversity of the region.
