An open air Theater that defines Sustainability
AAGAUR was commissioned to create an open-air theatre that transcended the traditional expectations of such a space. Not only was it intended to serve as a performance venue, but also as a versatile rehearsal and event ground. The primary goal of the project was to showcase sustainable architecture and design, setting an example for future construction endeavors.
Drawing inspiration from the concept of 'Ghat,' which refers to a staircase or landing near the shores of a river or lake, AAGAUR incorporated geometrical shapes to harmonize with the natural surroundings. To further promote sustainability, waste materials were utilized in the construction process. The walls and foundation were constructed using the debris from an old structure, while recycled bottles were creatively integrated into the wall design. These measures not only minimized waste but also showcased the potential in repurposing and transforming discarded materials.
Adding a touch of artistry, rotating panels made from scrap metal were incorporated into the design. Inspired by the vibrant feathers of a peacock, these panels served a dual purpose as functional backstage elements and aesthetically pleasing elements. Additionally, mosaic designs were crafted using remnants of old tiles sourced from the debris site, further celebrating the transformation of waste materials into something visually appealing.
With the inclusion of a staircase constructed from used plastic bottles, this open-air theatre demonstrated the potential for sustainable architecture in an urban setting. Not only did it repurpose materials that would have otherwise gone to waste, but it also highlighted the beauty in creating environmentally conscious structures. This project serves as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable design and sets a precedent for future construction practices in the city.
