The Urban Farm
The Kothari Residence
The client is an organic farmer who wanted their house to accommodate their farming and gardening activities. The design includes multiple green areas, strategically placed near bedrooms, kitchen, and on the first floor and terrace. The living and kitchen areas have an open layout with double high ceilings made of fersi material. Instead of using paints, lime plaster is used to color the walls, and Galicha tiles are used for the flooring. The exposed brickwork is a prominent feature of the residence. The entrance features cantilever stairs made of fersi with corbelling on the back, while the gallery ceiling is made of filler slab and the living room ceiling has a shallow dome design. The stairs leading to the open terrace on the first floor are catenary arch stairs. The house incorporates 'Aale' elements, which are used in the three courtyards of the house (kitchen, front, and back) as well as in the entrance gallery. The house is still under construction and serves as a great example of a sustainable residence.
